A shore thing: This podcast dives into the heart of old Goa - Hindustan Times

Image
art culture Updated on Aug 20, 2022 04:08 PM IST What makes Goan homes unique, what secrets are hidden in old Konkani songs, what was village life like before all the change... Susegad Stories from Goa by Clyde D'Souza takes listeners through the beach state, along the roads less-travelled. PREMIUM In one episode, Agnelo Mendonca, frontman of the band The Vindaloos, discusses how some still-popular songs were war cries against the Portuguese. By Natasha Rego What is Goa beyond the booze, beaches and bikinis? There's history, a rich local culture, food, music and visiting tourists of the sea-turtle kind. Clyde D'Souza, an author and media professional who divides his time between Goa and Mumbai, focuses on this other side of the state in his new podcast, Susegad Stories from Goa. D'Souza focuses on what it means to live and work in the state today, by interviewing one prominent Goan or Goan resident in ...

Taika Waititi Might Not Return For Thor 5 - Small Screen

Image
Taika Waititi's time with the Thor character might be coming to an end. It's being reported that the Kiwi filmmaker might not direct the upcoming Thor 5 movie for Marvel Studios , at least, if a report from Giant Freakin Robot is to be taken at face value. Personally, I haven't heard this from anybody else, but there might be a number of reasons why he might not return to direct the God of Thunder again. According to Giant Freakin Robot's "trusted and proven sources", the New Zealand director will not be returning to write nor direct the next Thor movie. The next movie would be Thor's fifth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The first movie was directed by Kenneth Branagh, and it received pretty good reviews when it was released back in 2011. The second movie, Thor: The Dark World wasn't so well received. It was directed by Alan Taylor, and it does seem as though it was a bit of a troubled production. The film was supposed to be...

Asheville live music: UB40, reggae, Amanda Shires, Spoon & Interpol - Citizen Times

Image
Jason Gilmer  |  Special to Scene An outdoor night filled with reggae is set for Sept. 4 at Salvage Station, when four of the genre's biggest hitmakers take the stage.  The Bigga Baggariddim Tour will begin at 6 p.m. and there will be plenty of recognizable songs for reggae lovers to sing along with.   Headlining the night is UB40, the English pop-reggae act who turned a Neil Diamond track into a worldwide hit. Diamond released "Red Red Wine" in 1967 as a single that reached No. 68 on the charts. UB40, though, infused the song with a bit of radio-friendly reggae and it reached No. 1 on the U.S. charts in 1988. Other hits by the band include a version of "I Got You, Babe" with Chrissie Hynde, "(I Can't Help) Falling in Love With You," "The Way You Do The Things You Do," and "Here I Am (Come and Take Me)."  Also on the bill are The Original Wailers, Big Mountain and ...

Ozzy 'Fed Up' With Gun Violence + School Shootings in U.S. - 'It's F--king Crazy' - Loudwire

Image
This week, Ozzy Osbourne indicated that he's moving back to his native U.K. from his longtime home in Los Angeles because of the amount of gun violence in the U.S. There have already been more than 300 mass shootings in the United States this year, according to the Gun Violence Archive. The legendary heavy metal singer and Black Sabbath co-founder's reason adds a new layer to what was previously reported to be a relocation based on tax reasons. The musician put his L.A. residence up for sale this summer. "Everything's fucking ridiculous there," Osbourne told the U.K.'s The Guardian of the States on Aug. 28. "I'm fed up with people getting killed every day," he continued. "God knows how many people have been shot in school shootings. And there was that mass shooting in Vegas at that concert [in 2017]. … It's fucking crazy." The...

The chart-topping singles about faith, inspiration and hope through the decades - Goldmine Magazine

Image
By Bill Bronk I enjoy all kinds of music. If a song has a lyric or melody hook that I can hum or sing along with, or whistle, clap my hands or tap my toes to, so much the better. For me, the proverbial icing on the cake is when a song strikes a chord with a message I can relate to. I'm sure that's the same for most people. Growing up in the 1940s and 1950s, I was always attuned to what was playing on the radio. From time to time, I remembered hearing popular songs of the day that were uplifting, inspirational, and sometimes religious in nature. It was that experience that led me to wonder how many such songs were popular enough to reach the various Billboard  charts. So recently, curiosity (or was it divine inspiration?) got the best of me, and I found myself seeking the answer. Most of us go through our lives appreciating one or more types of popular music, whether it be Pop/Rock, R&B, Folk or Country/Bluegrass. Within each of these genres there are unique o...

In Honor Of The "Only Murders In The Building" Season 2 Finale, Here Are Selena Gomez’s Best Songs, Ranked - BuzzFeed

Image
I love Selena Gomez's music so much, and I think it's very, very underrated. So I decided to rank her 50 best songs ever — which you know, because you clicked on this. Other than the Disney ones, these are only songs on Selena Gomez albums, so no "I Can't Get Enough" or any Selena Gomez & The Scene. But let the record show: "Love You Like a Love Song" is perfect.

Top Taylor Swift Collaborations: Songs Ranked – Billboard - Billboard

Image
Taylor Swift is a queen of the modern pop world. But when she joins forces with other artists, especially ones at the top of their game, the songs are automatically a cultural event. Big or small, artists who work with Swift always seem to pair with her voice perfectly — which is probably why she's done a number of duets throughout her career. From her first-ever recorded duet with Colbie Caillat on her mainstream breakthrough album Fearless  to a handful of remix features with artists like Ed Sheeran, Kendrick Lamar and Haim, Billboard has rounded up a whopping 29 collaborations Swift has under her belt. We will note that there could be more or less depending on how you define a collaboration. She's worked with a number of hit-making producers, from Jack Antonoff to Max Martin. She also has a few notable uncredited vocalists and backing vocalists throughout her catalog, including Imogen Heap on "Clean" and Marcus Mumford on "Cowboy Like Me." The...

Tim McGraw Wanted '7500 OBO,' So Dylan Scott Made an Offer - Taste of Country

Image
Evan Paul hosts Taste of Country Nights, On Demand, a weekly country music interview podcast that focuses on the music. Follow wherever  podcasts  are found, like Apple  Podcasts  and Spotify and leave a rating and review. This show is part of the Townsquare Media On Demand network. The songs that get played on country music go in random cycles. So when a funny anomaly — like what is currently happening with Dylan Scott and Tim McGraw — happens, it's truly appreciated. Dylan stopped by Taste of Country Nights to hang with me the other day, and something I have been dying to know is, does he know that there are two songs on the radio right now (his "New Truck" and Tim McGraw "7500 OBO") that are about the exact same thing? The subject of their songs is about how you need to get rid of a truck because of the bad memories it has with an ex of your...

Atomic Heart Arrives at Gamescom 2022 With A Gameplay Trailer And Release Window - Appuals

Image
Atomic Heart was a game that took the gaming industry by storm with a reveal trailer back in 2018 . But this wasn't the first time, the developer revealed some footage for the game. The project has been in development for as long as 2008 with some concept footage being released from 2008 to 2015 . Fast forward to now, and Atomic Heart has made its way to Gamescom 2022  with a gameplay trailer and a release window for the end of 2022. Atomic Heart Gameplay Trailer Atomic heart quickly became one of the most anticipated games that fans knew little to nothing about. The game featured a unique idea, with some interesting design choices. It takes inspiration from games like Stalker, Nier: Automata, Bioshock, and Metro if you take into account its art and gameplay choices. The game appears to be set in a post-apocalyptic sci-fi Russian dystopia , which looks pretty appealing thanks to its creepy design choices. Members of the Mundfish dev team grew up in Russia but what h...
